The Twist Ball is probably the most suitable puzzle ever for making an open version so naturally I had to construct one. I first removed one 'side' of a Flower Ball patterned Twist Ball and used the triangular part to make three buffers to fill in the gaps on the newly created rim. I then used stickers to colour the inside including the black area. In theory it's possible to actually remove the black areas making it even more open (or void) but I fear it may become too weak. The colouring I went for makes it easy but I like it. The original outer colours were removed with 600 grit wet and dry paper plus 1200 grit to regain smoothness.
Regular Twist Balls can be purchased here.
