My Cyclide puzzles have 3D printed external parts fitted around genuine mini Eastsheen 2x2x2 cores. A fuller more descriptive title would be 2x2x2 Ghost Dupin Cyclides. The Ghost part is because they have different shaped pieces plus a "part turn" solved state like my Golden Cubes or the later Ghost Cubes. Although the shape is commonly just called a Cyclide, mathematically there are different types. This one was discovered by Charles Dupin in 1803, hence Dupin Cyclide.
This is only the second puzzle I have construction with significant amounts of 3D printing. The other one was my Mini Astrolabacus which was 100% printed. I have worked on others (4Cubes and Cubes on a Disk) with Oskar van Deventer but he did all the CAD work so I don't really count those.
I've wanted to make a puzzle this shape for many years but it would have been tricky by hand to get it accurate. So as with my Mini Astrolabacus I reluctantly used a technique which I don't really enjoy to achieve a puzzle I had no other way of making.
I did think perhaps this could be warn as a pendant. I liitle big I guess but it's an option.
