When I was at secondary school in the early 80s I decided to write a computer program to simulate this puzzle. At the time only the original Rubik's Cube existed so you couldn't just use a 5x5x5 like you could today. We had just 2 or 3 computers and any sort of graphics involved pretty high level programing skills plus the screens could only display green. So my program would have been a very simple grid with naughts and crosses instead of colours. I never actually finished the program since it was near the end of term and exams took over.
I never would have dreamt at the time that over 30 years later I would physically make the puzzle. As usual it's a transformation so obviously a lot of the credit goes to the inventor of the Floppy Cube that I made it from. That inventor was Katsuhiko Okamoto and people should only buy the genuine version by Gentoshi since the others are KOs.
Please click on video link above for full details of the puzzle. I will also add a scramble & solve and eventually a reveal of the mechanism video so stay tuned.
